When Essential Equipment Wears Out

We had a team come and examine the ceiling Hoyer lift and determine that after ten years it would be best to replace the track and the foundation of the track. The lift is used to facilitate getting me out of bed to the bathroom, shower or into my wheelchair.

After loading bearing tests, it appears there are some weak areas in the base. The removal and replacement is expected to be a two or three day job. The track is currently very rough when in use, like going over a bumpy stone road…… so replacement is definitely necessary. The surprising part is the cost, $11,800. Can you imagine? We’ve checked into reimbursement possibilities but there are no funds to be found. Somehow we’ll find a way!
