Anticipation Vibrates as UNIQUE 2008 Pland for Unveiling Event
On October 15th, 2008 ARISE will unveil the 8th Edition of UNIQUE from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Delavan Art Gallery in Syracuse, NY.
UNIQUE is an art and literary magazine that features artwork by individuals with disabilities who live in the Central New York area. Each year artists submit written and visual artwork to the UNIQUE Editorial Board. Once the artwork for the magazine is chosen, artists are notified. However the Editorial Board does hold one element of surprise -- the artwork chosen for the front cover of UNIQUE is not revealed until the Unveiling Event.
In 2007, the front cover was by William D. Whinery, a piece titled ‘Samurai.’ Whinery says, “I was overwhelmed when attending last year’s reception only to discover that my work had been chosen for the cover of the magazine. To see my artwork displayed at the Delavan Art Gallery integrated with other Central New York artists was truly an exhilarating experience.”
For the second consecutive year, UNIQUE artists will showcase their artwork at the Delavan Art Gallery; artwork will be displayed among those by other local community artists. This event provides an opportunity for the UNIQUE artists to enjoy an evening of socializing with guests, other artists, several Central New York government officials, refreshments and live music by the Clinton String Quartet.
