Decorate Ginger Bread Houses
Every year around the holidays, ARISE at the Farm hosts an engaging recreational activity for people with disabilities where they get together to decorate Ginger Bread houses. This tradition was developed 4 years ago and the number of people interested in participating is increasing every year (20 took part in 2006). Kids and adults are excited to join in the festivities and spaces get filled quite fast. This year, ARISE will offer the Ginger Bread House Decoration Event at 635 James Street in Syracuse on December 18 (Tuesday) at 6:15 pm.
This program was initially supported by ARISE’s staff and it is currently being sponsored by a Family Support Services (FSS) grant. All eligible participants will receive a pre-fabricated gingerbread house, icing, and an assortment of candies for decoration. Due to the high demand, ARISE cannot offer free supplies to the friends and family members of participants, although they are more than welcome to join us in the decorating efforts. Friends and family who attend are encouraged to bring a pre-purchased house, their creativity and a bag of candy to be shared by all in the decoration excitement.
The event is free of charge for all eligible participants. Anyone interested in participating or learning more about this event should call and/or RSVP to either Laura Little (687-6727) or Jen Schulz (671-2957) before December 16th (Sunday) to let them know of the number of people interested in attending the Ginger Bread Houses Decoration Event.
