 ARISE & Ski

For the fifteenth year, people of all abilities will don their warm winter clothing and head to Toggenburg Mountain Winter Sports Center in Fabius for the ARISE & Ski program.
From January 9th to February 14th, seventy-eight skiers of all ages, abilities, and levels of experience … as well as more than 120 volunteers … will participate in the only all-inclusive, adaptive ski program in Central New York.

ARISE & Ski offers a variety of adaptive equipment so that new skiers with disabilities can experience downhill skiing for the first time, and experienced skiers can come back each year to enjoy some downhill fun. Because the program is inclusive, people with disabilities, their families, and friends can swoosh down the hills side-by-side.

Each year there are skiers who have so much fun they look to continue their ski season. In 2009, seven ARISE & Skiers competed in the adaptive downhill ski slalom at the Empire State Games, which take place in Lake Placid, NY, after the ARISE & Ski season. We expect that some 2010 skiers will go on to participate in the Empire State Games again this year.

The success of ARISE & Ski is due to the dedication of its volunteers and the generosity of the staff of Toggenburg Mountain and its owner, Jim Hickey.
