Medical Transcriptionist

Job Title: Medical Transcriptionist, Grade 3

Reports to:  Director of Clinical Services

FLSA Status/Schedule: Non-Exempt; Variable Hour 15-30 hours per week

Location: Syracuse

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, some college or business school preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to function autonomously and as a team member
  • General organizational skills with accurate attention to details
  • Some understanding of Adult and Children’s mental health
  • Ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies and techniques taught and used on the job
  • Ability to actively listen and type simultaneously
  • Ability to spell, proofread and edit written text
  • Ability to operate an agency computer and electronic health record; experience with Evolv preferred
  • Understanding of and commitment to appropriate protection of HIPAA regulated confidential information
  • Commitment to high professional ethical standards and professional interaction with others
  • Successful completion of required prescreening checks (List of Excluded Individuals and Entities, NYS Child Registry, etc.)

Essential Functions:

  • Listen to an audio recording of a client encounter and document the narrative accurately in grammatically correct English
  • Accurate and timely charting of client encounters, including but not limited to client history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, and lab and test results, consultations with other providers, treatment course, diagnoses, and prescriptions
  • Review physician narrative for Office of Mental Health (OMH) and Department of Health (DOH) regulatory compliance in relation to documentation practices
  • Excellent job attendance
  • Participate as part of the ARISE Mental Health Clinic team
  • Uphold the codes of conduct and ethics as well as all ARISE policies and procedures
  • Exercise sound judgment as a matter of course, and hold protected health information and other sensitive information in the strictest of confidence in accordance with ARISE and HIPAA policies
  • Other duties as assigned
