Job summary: The SBMH therapist assists with supports and provides services to children and their family members and/or appropriate collaterals that assist children in improving their social, emotional and educational functioning.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
  • New York State LMSW, MHC
  • Valid New York State driver’s license, access to reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated ability to function both autonomously and as a team member
  • Knowledge of community resources, Office of Mental Health regulations, and Child Welfare system
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the functions below

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a caseload equivalent to 25 billable units per week; also help lead/provide group services
  • Provide intake assessment, treatment planning, therapy, and discharge planning services to children and their families at a SBMH satellite location, home visit, and/or other clinic site as appropriate
  • Deliver quality, effective, client centered social work services that assist children in improving their social, emotional, and educational functioning
  • Engage family members and appropriate collaterals in the treatment process as clinical supports
  • Participate in periodic meetings with school and interdisciplinary team to identify children’s needs, develop effective intervention plans, and provide feedback and updates to other team members
  • Refer children and their families, as appropriate, to other community services to meet their identified needs
  • Provide regular home visits in order to form a connection between the child’s home and school
  • Develop and deliver educational and group therapy services based upon the needs of the client population
  • Maintain written documentation and case records within the Electronic Medical Record (preferably experience with Evolv), regarding assessment, treatment planning, treatment, and referral of the child in accordance with OMH and agency regulations
  • Provide periodic stigma reduction and psychoeducational trainings and classroom consultation to school and team members, regarding effective identification and management of children’s behavioral and mental health issues
  • Compile required data for reporting on utilization of school based mental health services
  • Participate in development and delivery of therapeutic recreation services for clients of the program during summer months
  • Participate in weekly staffing, clinical supervision, and department meetings
  • Uphold code of ethics, code of conduct and all ARISE policies and procedures
  • Exercise sound judgment as a matter of course, and hold protected health information and other sensitive information in the strictest of confidence in accordance with ARISE and HIPAA policies
  • Provide coverage on a rotating basis for the after-hours crisis line
  • Perform other duties as assigned
