Assistant Manager, Farm Operations (F/T) – ARISE at the Farm

Job Title:     Assistant Manager, Farm Operations

Reports to:  Farm Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Schedule:    Up to 30 hours per week


Job Summary:  The Assistant Manager will support the Farm Operations Manager in all aspects of caring for the horses and running the Farm.  ARISE at the Farm is an accessible, inclusive recreation center located on a 77-acre working horse farm in Chittenango, NY. Focused on the needs and interests of individuals with disabilities in the Central New York region, ARISE at the Farm is open throughout the year and offers a variety of recreational activities.


Essential Functions:

  • Act as supervisor in charge of operations and activities during designated shifts, currently Monday – Thursday: 2PM – 7PM;    Saturday 8AM – 1PM
  • Administer and manage volunteer program/volunteers at the Farm
  • Teach horseback riding lessons
  • Perform horse farm chores as necessary
  • Assist riders in safely mounting and dismounting horses
  • Exercise sound judgment
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Certified member of PATH International* preferred; or, willing to become PATH certified
  • Minimum of ten years equine experience
  • Experience teaching horseback riding lessons
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience supervising, managing people
  • Able to shovel, sweep, bend, reach, mop, carry buckets, work in wide range of temperatures (as the Central New York seasons provide year-round), lift up to 75 pounds
  • Experienced in safe operation of farm equipment (tractor, 4-wheeler, etc.), knowledgeable of safety regulations
