About Us
ARISE is a consumer-controlled, non-profit Independent Living Center (ILC) that promotes the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the community.
What makes an Independent Living Center different? Unlike other organizations, ILCs are run by and for people with disabilities. Our programs and services advocate for and provide support to persons with disabilities. All that we do is based on the independent living philosophy, the belief that people with disabilities have a right to self-determination – the freedom to make choices and work toward achieving personal goals and systems change.
ARISE works with people of all ages who have all types of disabilities. Each year, ARISE serves more than 3,000 people from our offices located in three Central New York counties: Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego.
ARISE’s core services include peer counseling, independent living skills training, information and referral, and individual and systems advocacy. We also offer a broad range of programs beyond our core services, each designed to support independent living and community integration. All our programs are consumer directed, maximizing choice and opportunities for the people we serve.
ARISE also works with community organizations, businesses, and government, advocating for increased public accommodation and accessibility.
ARISE’s main office is located in Syracuse, New York. We have satellite offices located in Oswego, Pulaski, and Oneida, New York. ARISE at the Farm, which is committed to furthering integrated, accessible recreation, is located in Chittenango.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us to learn more about the programs and services we offer in each of our locations.
